Rwanda – August 2017
Muraho! The team were working in Rwanda in conjunction with Wateraid.
The project began by undertaking work in an area that had little to no access to water, high levels of water borne diseases, with poor sanitation and malnutrition as a result. Even today, less than one in two houses has access to running water and over 10% of households obtain their water from stagnant water in any manner they can.
The team focused on the sanitation side of Wateraid’s work, assisting with the brilliant EcoSan project, whereby the facilities built help collect and provide fertiliser that has been proven to improve crop fruition. The team also provided latrine facilities where previously there was none, enhancing education on the importance of improved sanitation, helping reducing levels of disease, and perhaps most important of all, giving the community a sense of pride and dignity.
