Malawi – September 2013
The main aim of this project was to refurbish existing student accommodation for use by paying guests who are working, studying or visiting the Beit CURE hospital in Blantyre, Malawi. The team also undertook some simple landscaping to create a basic garden on land surrounding the accommodation.
Malawi is one of the ten poorest countries in the world with extremely stretched provision of medical services. Children with physical disabilities are particularly disadvantaged and the hospital provides free operations to these children. This project will enhance the accommodation and provide future income to ensure the hospital is able to continue to provide free operations to those most in need. The ethos of the Beit CURE International Hospital is that “Adults pay a fee so the children can walk free”.
