Lebanon – June/ July 2018
This project is led by the Order of Malta in Lebanon, located in the Al Fadi Centre in Chabrouh. The camps run for one week, where volunteers provide one-on-one care to underprivileged guests with physical and or mental disabilities, who come from specialised homes and psychiatric hospitals across Lebanon. The guests at the camp are between the ages of 6 to 70 years old and their disabilities range from mild to severe impairments and infirmities. Many of them have no real connection with their families and spend the whole year locked inside their homes or centres. For lack of proper funding, these individuals receive no professional psychological follow-ups and very little affection. The lack of personal relationships often leads to depression, apathy and isolation.
The camps offers the opportunity for these individuals to receive sufficient care and attention. It is a place where these guests can benefit from sunlight, fresh air, outdoor walks, and the beautiful surrounding landscape that the Lebanese mountains have to offer. It is the goal of the camp to foster an environment of acceptance, tolerance, friendship and joy.
